STRALAU – CD

Muzica albumului, compusă şi interpretată de Olaf Rupp & Chris Dahlgren, aparţine avantgardei şi improvizaţiei şi este interpretată cu instrumentele acustice: viola da gamba şi chitară acustică. Stralau este primul album din seria DLE (digipack limited edition) fiind editat de Soft Records în 300 de exemplare numerotate de colecţie.

Despre album, Olaf Rupp spune: Stralau este o mică biserică din secolul al XV-lea, una dintre cele mai vechi din Berlin, situată chiar pe malul râului Spree pe peninsula cu acelaşi nume, într-o zonă frecventată de turişti şi de berlinezi. Este un loc liniştit care îndeamnă la meditaţie şi contemplare şi care a influenţat muzica pe care am înregistrat-o aici. Când am decis să facem o înregistrare cu viola da gamba şi guitară acustică ne-a fost clar că ne doream o unitate de înregistrare mobilă într-o locaţie foarte specială şi ne-a luat destul de mult timp pănă am găsit această bisericuţă situată pe peninsula Stralau. Avea ambianţa naturală foarte potrivită caracteristicilor acustice ale instrumentelor. Am utilizat două microfoane Shoep într-un jecklin disk (disc fonoabsorbant utilizat pentru ecranarea parţială a microfoanelor la înregistrare) şi am poziţionat cu grijă instrumentele astfel incât să putem capta sunetul natural perfect balansat al instrumentelor cu coarde din cameră.

Olaf Rupp: The old Stralau church is one of the oldest buildings in Berlin. It is located on the Stralau peninsula directly on the river Spree, and is an excellent spot for fishing and boat travel, and therefore home to one of the earliest settlements of people around present-day Berlin. It is a spot of peace, reflection and contemplation which influenced the music we made there. When we decided to do a recording with viola da gamba and acoustic guitar it was clear for us that we wanted a mobile recording in a very special room for this. We spent some time looking for a suitable venue and found this little church on peninsula Stralau in Berlin. It had just the right amount of natural ambience to support the acoustic characteristics of the instruments very well. We set up two Shoeps microphones in a jecklin disk and carefully choose the right distances for the instruments so that we could capture the best natural balanced sound of the string instruments in the room.
