Drifting Blues – CD

At exactly 6 years since the release of the desCÂNTECE de Blues album, an entirely author’s album, made up of his own compositions, in Romanian, worked with the band members who formed at that time his band – Trenul de noapte (The Night Train), we have a new album signed by Marcian Petrescu, a name with authority in the Romanian blues movement, an erudite of the blues and blues history, a virtuoso of harmonica.

Drifting Blues is a “solo” album, released under its own name and made entirely from the work of famous pieces, extracted largely from the great catalog of contemporary American and British blues, a fusion album of genres and styles.

Marcian Petrescu
: “I can say rightly that the songs on this album have been” haunting me “for a long time … It was an accumulation of states, feelings, emotions, experiences, as a result of concerts held all over the country over the last four years. … Frankly, it was extremely difficult to decide on a final list of pieces. Initially, I had about 35 tracks that deserved to be recorded, but that would mean making at least one double album! After an extremely hard and easy “painful” selection, I decided on the 10 tracks you find on the disc. There was a pre-production stage, in which we analyzed each piece and we thought the final structures, and most importantly, I made the decision to invite more guitarists to give a distinct color to each piece.

About the collaboration with Rick Estrin, a giant of the American and world blues with which he recorded Sure Seems Strange, Marcian says:
From my extremely subjective point of view (it’s true!), a jewel composed in 1993 by my good friend and mentor, Rick Estrin, quoted by many guild professionals and by most audiences as one of the most talented composers and lyricists in contemporary blues, on the same level as illustrious figures such as Willie Dixon, Sonny Boy Williamson II (Rice Miller) or Muddy Waters! If at all this adds his huge talent for musician … I think you realize why I invited him to honor me with this album.
Rick Estrin is the third American American giant musician I’ve invited to my albums. A performance that I am proud of and which, to my knowledge, is unique in the Romanian blues! … I’ll reveal some of the “behind the scenes” of the song recording.
First of all, I allowed myself a freedom and a slightly risky decision when we included an additional stump I composed specifically for this record. I think I managed to integrate it perfectly in the spirit of the original piece.
Secondly, I can tell you that I had to do a bit of clarification work to convince Rick to go into the studio and record a song and a voice on a piece he had not played for 25 years !!! At first he was a bit reluctant, fearing the possibility that after so many years of the original recording, the voice would not “go” so well and would not remember the “mechanics” of getting the instrumental watermarks difficult chromatic musician. Without modesty … I congratulate myself on the fact, and the result is obvious!

The album enjoys the presence of famous artists from Romania: Mişu Constantinescu – keyboard, mixing, mastery, orchestration; guitarists Nicu Patoi (Platonic Band leader), Mihai Tacoi, Alex Visan, Marian Aciobanitei. A special presence is the one of the virtuoso Marius Mihalache (dulcimer), and the dulcimer is thought of as a substitute for the piano, a link between Eastern and Western cultures united by the international language of blues.

During the recording of tracks featuring the album Drifting Blues, Marcian had an excellent collaboration with Adrian Despot and Sorin “Pupe” Tanase – the Vdv Music Studio – which printed a distinct color for the voice, harmonica and guitar sonorities.
